Another main issue that is feeding this problem in America is the type of food we’re serving children in public schools. The role of a parent to monitor their child’s diet is extremely important. Most schools serve children food that is processed and unhealthy. Food companies inject chemicals into these foods to help them last longer and stay in better physical condition. These chemicals can be harmful and have long term effects on children. Also many of the foods served in most school systems have added sugar. There are several ways we can correct this. We can require schools to cook meals instead of heating up frozen meals that come in boxes. Also healthier choices such as salads, fruits, and vegetables can substitute for pizza, chips, and Gatorade every day. Helping kids make healthier choices can have a long term effect on the way they eat in the future. Schools also need to make Physical Education an important part of a student’s day or even include a class that focuses on personal responsibility while away from school.
It has been proven that eating nothing but fast food can be of great harm to your body. At the end of Morgan Spurlocks study he went from weighing 185 pounds to 210 pounds after eating nothing but McDonalds for 30 days straight. He also developed a toxic liver and shot his cholesterol level up to a scary 225. This study was not meant to single out McDonalds in any way, but to show the effects of a total fast food diet on the body. Every fast food restaurant is at fault here and they have all recently made changes to improve their menus in a healthy fashion. Science.
