The Crucible Essay: John Proctor’s Decision

In Arthur Miller’s famous play, The Crucible, John Proctor faces the consequences of his infidelity. Proctor’s wife, Elizabeth, is not only distrustful of John, but she then becomes the victim of John’s mistress, Abigail Williams. Abigail and the other girls acquire power over the town while their accusations are spread through the village. As John attempts to save his wife, he faces the court of Salem and his former mistress. When John is unsuccessful in saving his wife and is jailed for charges of witchcraft, John is faced with a decision that holds lifelong and/or life-ending consequences.
