They were scanning to check the size of the tumor, which ended up being three centimeters and determine if the tumor was solid or liquid. The next step was the fine needle biopsy. It was a totally different story. To start off, my mother hated needles. We got in there and the doctor tried to explain to me and my mom what he was going to do. I cried the entire time my mother was there because it was taking so long and my mother seemed to be in pain. To begin that process, you must have an injection made into your neck to numb it. I ended up closing my eyes so I did not have to see the long needle being placed into her neck. Once that was over and done with, we had to wait for it to take effect. While that was going on he went to get the containers to put the tissue samples in. By then it was time to start the procedure. All he had to do was take ten needles and draw so much out of the tumor cells and place the contents in the containers. After about the eighth needle the medication was wearing off and she was able to start feeling the needles going into her neck. Finally, it was over and now all that was left was for him to go and test the cells to see if it was cancer. The hard part was over and all that was left
