CHAPTER I
Introduction:
According to Agulana (2000), the family plays a crucial role in the foundation and overall development of a child. It is where the child begins to learn new things with the aid of the biological parents and other members of the family. In Philippine society, the ideal family structure is commonly described as having composed of a mother, a father and a child which is according to Wilkinson (1974) a traditional two-parent nuclear family. However, in the entrance of the twentieth century, deviation from this ideal family structure started to become unavoidable (Brooks, 2011).
