Background/Definition of the Research Problem
The researcher has always been curious as to how the netballers of a rural high school managed their social life, personal life and of course their academic life all combined with sports. The researcher’s curiosity was heightened when some of the school’s netballers were in the same batch as the researcher. said girls would have long hours of training specially if an upcoming match is approaching. And even with all that hard work they still maintained a decent average. Hence the researcher’s reason for researching this issue, to find out how extra-curricular activities, specifically netball affect students academically.
Denbigh high school, a phenomenon place of learning was never the school that everyone knows today, like their netball team, the school rose from the scums to the elites and is still rising. The school was first established in the year 1969, seven years after Jamaica’s independence. It went through a series of changes, on such was its name, starting from compulsory until it finally became a high school. As aforementioned, the school’s netball team did not just become the best of the best overnight, in fact they were one of the worst netball teams in the island, but they worked hard and achieved their dream of becoming the crème de la crème of high school netball teams.
