The successful completion of this project was due to the diligence, dedication and cooperation of all group members.  However, in executing our assignment, we received expert guidance from persons who have expertise in the subject under investigation and we hereby express our sincere gratitude. We record our gratitude to the management and staff of J. H. Dunstan and Associates. Thanks to Mrs. Claudette Clarke, Assistant Human Resource Manager, who graciously assisted us in getting the consent of the management to conduct this research. In addition, we garnered useful information from her years of service to the company.  

We would also like to express special to thanks to Ms. Daniah Dunstan, General Manager, who was very enthusiastic about us conducting our study at J.H. Dunstan and Associates and without hesitation accommodated us. We also record our gratitude to the employees who cooperated by answering the questionnaires which significantly provided us with primary data to corroborate our findings, conclusions and recommendations.

To our Lecturer, Dr. Patrick Sterling, we say thanks for the knowledge he has imparted in his engaging lectures on Compensation Management: Strategies, Systems and Theories. Indeed,   his lectures have deepened our knowledge and have wet our appetite to undertake this most useful study.  We sincerely hope that the findings and recommendations of this investigation will assist the company as they seek to improve their compensation strategy and help to create equity in compensation for all employees.

Background

Many workers are more concerned about being fairly and reasonably compensated while enjoying a positive work environment and a sense of satisfaction from getting their job done. (Herman 1994). Against this background, we the researchers of this study, seek to review a Construction and Engineering company, J.H.Dunstan and Associates’ approach to managing compensation in relation to recruitments and selection, performance management, rewards and recognition, transfers, reassignment and redeployment. The paper also focuses on the main compensation challenges faced by the organization and what approach it takes to deal with these challenges.
