Project Management Practice, Generic or Contextual

This paper research is to understand the project management practice by investigating the use of project management tools and techniques and the levels of support provided by organizations for their use. The research is based on a survey of 750 project management practitioners which are to examines both general levels of use and variations among project types and contexts. The purpose of this paper research is to present empirical result that show both the common element and the sigificant variations.
Methodology
The research investigation was conducted using a Web-Based survey. The Web-based survey questionnaire was based on demographic information on the respondents, and information on industry, organizational context, and project characteristics. The questionnare is design to investigate the 70 tools and techniques chosen for the study.
Data Analysis
The data is analize with two approaches. First, tools were rank-ordered according to average levels of use both for the entire sample and the subpopulations divided using project characteristics and contextual variables. Second, statistically significant differences were sought between levels of use across different subpopulations.
The Examination of Usage Levels
The result in this examination of usage level for the entire sample indicate that feasibility studies, while not a frequently used tool, are used more frequently than many of the other tools and techniques prominent. There is factor which influencing the usage level likes the organizational support; The correlation analysis showed a very strong relationship between use levels and the levels of organizational support. There is also autonomous usage, which is someone considers a tool intrinsically valuable without the organization support.
