Being a College Student

“As students, we never really thought we could spark any change at all.” Being a college student is hard, but I believe that being a Thomasian nursing student is harder. With all the nursing care plans and drug analysis that we have to pass, not to mention the nerve racking case presentations and the pressure to complete our DR cases, we thought that all we had to do was to study and pass our subjects. Any other activities that would take away our precious free time, which was intended for sleep, twitter, and more sleep, was a hassle. Who would like staying under the sun all day constructing houses? . Any other activities that would take away our precious free time, which was usually intended for sleep, twitter, and more sleep, was a hassle. Who would like staying under the sun all day constructing houses? Who would like answering and reading modules on E-leap? Who would like to spend their Sundays going to barangays to cook or even going to orientations? These were my first impressions of NSTP and it proved the saying that “First impressions don’t last.” Yes, taking NSTP may indeed seem a little bit of a hassle but it was also a blessing in disguise. Let me tell you why.
I would like to believe that NSTP was more than just another requirement. It was actually an eye opener that changed each of us in its own simple ways. Fieldworks allowed us to observe and interact with other communities. It allowed us to experience what they are going through and understand them and I think that is one important factor on initiating change. Though it was hard and tiring, being able to be in their shoes taught me to appreciate what I have and be contented. It taught me how to accept my weaknesses and embrace my strengths. It made me appreciate the efforts of my parents who works hard to provide us our needs, and even what we want.
