Bottled water should be banned from the school campus. It is not good for the environment, unnecessary, and expensive. Bottled water is 2,000 times more expensive than tap water. Can you imagine paying a cup of coffee for 5,000 dollars? Bottled water companies tell the customers that bottled water is cleaner than tap water, so we should buy it. But the fact is, 1/3 of the bottled water are filled with tap water. They also say that tap water is polluted and unhealthy for you, but guess what, the reason why some waters are polluted is because of the bottled water companies. They use oil to make the plastic bottle, more oil to ship it, and throw the plastic bottles in land fills after they are finished. Each year oil used to make water bottles in the US are enough to fuel a million cars. That is the cause of polluted water. The United States is spending millions of dollar to deal with the bottles thrown out. 80% of the bottled water in the trash can end up in land fills, the others go to incinerators where they burn the bottle and release toxic gas to the air. Why don’t we just use that money to improve public water infrastructure and prevent pollution? The bottled water companies are trying to scare us and mislead us with the advertisements of tap water being polluted and unhealthy. They are doing this because they want to make money out it. Therefore, we should ban bottled water from school campus and protect our health and the planet.
