The Objectives and Competencies that will be discussed in this paper will be to “analyze the social disorganization in mid-19th-century American history that created the climate for particular types of organized crime. To explain the evolution of organized crime as well as describe the history, structure, and multi-national operating methods of the drug business. Analyze the relationship between organized crime, prohibition, and new drug syndicates. Ending this paper with how to identify changes in the various business interests of organized crime over the last 150 years”. What is social disorganization? How does social disorganization relate to organized crime and its evolution? How well does social disorganization meet the criteria for organized crime and its various relationships? What are the correlation of corrupt political machines and social disorder to the development of organized crime?
To define the many criteria's of organized crime would be first to know that the association of three characters that for a period are carrying on together in criminal acts. Although, many media outlets have a tendency to depict criminal organizations as an Italian mafia family, there are many other groups of different backgrounds, races, and ethnicities. The main goal of a criminal organization is to make large profits and maintain a significant amount of power and control over the areas they run. An additional of prospects in the society that promote such activities, for example, would be the presence of a ready market of illegal or counterfeit products being accessible. Organized crime encourages the evolution to some extent that meets the criteria as well as the effects of social disorganization. For example, lack of self-policing in the society supports the criminals since their efforts are figurative "not tied up," or unrestricted.
There is not one standard definition of organized crime, but there are several attributes that leads law enforcement entities to deem a group of people who engage in illegal activities an organized crime group. Most criminal organizations occupy a hierarchical structure. This is very organized and everyone in the group must abide by strict rules employed by the leaders of these organizations. Organized crime groups can be very dangerous and detrimental to the communities they are in because of the illegal activities they engage in. Making the association concerning societal inefficiency and controlled wrongdoing as previously specified, make corruption mature and turn out to be the established way of life for many people that need to survive in high crime areas. At the end of the day, social disorganization encounters the means of controlled lawbreaking because it is utterly against the universal principles.
