In the human services field there are unique organizations that are different than any other in the general business world. According to Lewis and Packard (2012), “human services organizations work together toward a common goal”. Human services professionals work together in different settings and in many different ways to assist clients in conducting and improving their lives. This common vision brings other questions that need to be handled when partnering up with other professionals. There are similar goals between agencies that are very important when delivering services. In this paper the writer will discuss the central focus on all human service programs, describe trends in the human service field, and lastly Identify qualities of human service agencies associated with and that contribute to success.
The central focus of human services is to put people’s need as a first priority through an interdisciplinary knowledge base focusing on prevention and commitment to help improve the quality of life (National Human Service, 2014). Different organizations with different service deliveries all work together with the same goal in mind. According to Lewis & Packard, (2012), they all work to together to enhance the lives of the people and communities that are being served. However; in spite of that, they all share the same commitments and goals and that is to build and enhance their client’s lives so they can become productive members of society.
Over the years, delivery of services has changed based on particular things happening at that specific time. Service deliveries change based on different factors such as: Political trends, economic trends, social trends, and technological trends (Lewis & Packard, 2012). There are qualities in the human service field that are contributors to the organization’s success. Some of the qualities in the human services organizations are the careful consideration been given to the employees and the sense of stake they have in the organization (Lewis & Packard, 2012). The political pressures are to avoid displaying material that causes a reduction in services while costs increase and revenues fall this can cause changes in human services. Economic trends affect human services, because when the economy is not doing well, more clients will come in demanding help. When the government has budget issues, this affects the funds and the agencies won’t be able to help clients like they would like to. Things like shutting or closing down programs that help the clients will occur. The economy usually is up and down due to changes in the agency and increases in costs. Social trends are blamed on diversity changes in human services and therefore the agencies must be able to see the difference between the population’s principles and needs. Technology has provided a great deal of help in human services, and it is cost-effective services (Govtech, 2014). Agencies uses technologies that were created to make their jobs a little easier.
