COMPETENCY BASED JOB ANALYSIS: NEED OF THE HOUR

Today a news came which stirred me. One of my friends, Rahul Sharma is under severe depression and has left his job. My memories go down the lane on the last day of engineering. We were both sitting in the library and suddenly he started smiling and felt elated. In the employments news there was a recruitment notification for 150 engineers in a PSU engaged in Aeronautics. Rahul first passion was aircrafts and it was like dream coming true for him. He told me “You need to fight for the 149 seats as one is reserved for me”. He started preparing for it and later on I came to know that he was selected and joined the company.

But what has happened in these last five years which forced him to leave the job which he loved the most?

Background

Rahul Sharma was always a very bright intelligent student from his childhood days. He was always known for his analytical skills and was the favourite of teachers. He later on joined one of the esteemed regional Engineering colleges and in a short while became favourites of everyone. His engineering innovative mind impressed everyone. However he was a bit introvert and always seemed to be lost in his world. One thing which fascinated him except studies was aircrafts specially fighter aircrafts. Anyone who has been once in his room would know about his passion. The age in which most of the students rooms would has been full of Bollywood actress posters, his room was full of fighter aircraft posters. Name any fighter aircraft and he would spell all the details of it. The passion for the aircraft could easily be seen on his face. So when he saw the recruitment notification for engineers in a PSU engaged in Aeronautics, he felt elated. He started preparing for the exam and topped it. The Interview Board was impressed by his passion and knowledge for aircraft and unanimously selected him. He threw a grand party and everyone could feel his happiness. He was bubbling with energy and started dreaming of being the architect of first indigenous fighter aircraft.

Finally the day came when they had to join in Company’s Head Quarter in Bangalore. All of the new trainees were given a grand welcome. The energetic speeches during the introduction filled everyone with pride and all wanted to be on the shop floor to work. However they were to undergo one year of rigorous training which was considered as the Best Induction training at that time. The training included Management classes at the company’s management academy, reputed technical institutions like IIT’s and the most important Training at TETTRA School (The technical training school of IAF). He completed his training in flying colors and was given posting in a remote division in UP. He has no idea about whereabouts of the location of his division but still he was feeling elated as he was on the verge of taking first step towards achieving his dream.
