My chosen discipline is management, and the significant diversity issues involve cultural identity. Culture refers to practices, customs, languages and values that define various social groups based on their common interests, ethnicity or nationality. Cultural identity is highly critical in management since it enables people to acquire a sense of self and how they interact with others. A strong cultural identity is highly significant in management as it contributes it the overall wellbeing of people.

Cultural identity refers to the feeling of belonging to a particular group of individuals. It is a significant component of the self-conception of an individual and also the self-perception element and is highly linked to ethnicity, nationality, social class, religion, locality or any social group that has a distinct culture (Simon, 1996).In this framework, cultural identity is highly characteristic towards the individual, and also, this person shares similar identical cultural elements to the group of members that share the same cultural identity.

Diversity in cultural identity enables individuals in most situations to acknowledge the difference in cultures and as a result, positively influence the behaviors of these people within a similar environment. If these people were colleagues in an enterprise, the image, and performance of the organization would be enhanced. Cultural diversity also creates a deep sense of understanding and respect towards individuals in a firm. This element is strengthened by constant communication and team building exercises. Interactions between people from different backgrounds enable these participants to appreciate identities of the other person’s culture.
