Leadership Traits
Leadership is defined as "the act of influencing others to work toward a goal."(Bauer, 2012) There are certain personality traits that are related to leadership including having both mental ability and emotional intelligence, being outgoing, having an openness to new experiences, being conscientious, high self-esteem, and having integrity. I have both strengths and weaknesses in the area of leadership and I have developed a strategy to improve my leadership skills.
I have both strengths and weaknesses pertaining to leadership. I have been told that I have a natural leader and enjoy taking charge. I have the intelligence necessary to be a leader. I have 4 of the "Big 5 Personality Traits" of openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, and agreeableness. I also have a lot of integrity and take great pride in my work. However, my biggest weakness is that I do not have very high self-esteem which makes it difficult to stand my ground when someone questions my authority.
I have learned different strategies to help raise my self-esteem. First, I have to stop thinking negatively about myself. I need to set achievable goals rather that always trying to be perfect. I must realize that everyone makes mistakes including myself and I should view them as a learning experience. Lastly, I need to voice my opinions and not be afraid of what others may think.
There are certain personality traits which are connected to being a good leader. I have a lot of those traits and with the strategies I have learned, II believe my leaderhips will improve and make a huge difference in my future.
