Multimodal Approaches
- Multimodal Approaches to substance abuse use the combinations of psychotherapy that is done by a psychologist.
- Multimodal therapy is considered an eclectic form of psychotherapy that integrates elements of several disciplines, theories, and therapeutic approaches. A multimodal approach is one of the most flexible forms of therapy and is also very efficient with lasting results and is catered to the client as well as their needs.
- Multimodal therapy looks at the fact that the addict’s problems or addictions involve an interaction of many modalities rather than a few. The approach emphasizes on positive reinforcement. These behaviors are considered clean living this is done by taking certain steps along with the therapy. Step one analysis of antecedent as well as consequences of substance abuse. Two help to move to a goal for those who may not be quite ready. Three is selecting a goal to improve their personal life. Four performing behavioral skills training on the client. five skill training to maintain employment. Six social counseling with recreational counseling. Seven relapse preventions skill training and finally the eighth step is relationship counseling to improve their personal relationships. By doing this the addict is able to build themselves up and create a new version of themselves.
Intensive outpatient
- Intensive outpatient treatment is a variety of approaches to the treatment of an individual.
IOT is tailored to the addict to become an effective treatment for substance abuse. A provider will recognize and adjust for conflicts that may cause issues during treatment.
- IOT program is similar to a 12 step program such as AA. An IOT program is effective with people from many walks of life. Clients who are in this kind of program continues to live and work in their normal environment.
- A worker will analyze the addict to find their personal triggers and deciding on recovery responses as well as strategies to prevent a relapse.
- IOT is used to teach the client to recognize and reduce the risks and maintain abstinences from their addiction. These programs require full disclosure by the client for the program to work for them. This kind of program typically takes place over a 10 to 12-week period in the evenings. With continued participation the individual has a good chance of being successful within a support group.
