An organization’s ethics determines its reputation. In today’s competitive market, in view of globalization and technological advances, it is especially essential for organizations to practice ethical business behavior to build a strong public image to garner the support of consumers and employees. Although practicing good business ethics has many benefits, it remains as a constant challenge for organizations, as the potential for unethical behavior is illimitable.

By creating a code, it does not insure that ethical behavior will occur. The code of ethics and ethical decision-making must be infused into the organization to be effective. So companies create ethics programs to establish and help maintain the ethical business environment. An ethic program is a formal organizational initiative to implement standards of responsible business conduct, and detect and prevent misconduct. Basically, a corporate ethics program puts the words of a corporate ethics code into action. For instance, a corporate ethics code may state that no employees should accept gifts from a client; an ethics program should ensure that no employee takes gifts from a client.

Out of many, written code of ethics and employee hotlines can be considered as two specific ethics programs that company use to promote and maintain an ethical business environment. Code of ethics is A written set of guidelines issued by an organization to its workers and management to help them conduct their actions in accordance with its primary values and ethical standards. Organizations struggle to detect fraud and conduct an employee theft investigation. Even the most proactive organizations that make regular use of auditing, undercover operations and other expensive and time consuming measures may not uncover all thefts.
