Discuss the role ethics plays in protecting an organization's information.
What are the important ethical values an organization needs to communicate to its users to help its information security efforts?
In all organizations ethics should be a number one priority to all and should be stressed to the highest level to all employees up and down the organization. Without some sort of sense between what is right and wrong harm can come to your valued customers and employees with the release of certain data. Even though throughout the world ethical conduct could change from nationality to nationality, the general consensus before taking any action should be is this right/wrong and how will/could your decision affect the customer and the company?
There is a vast range of ethical values an organization can consider. My thoughts on the more important ethical values an organization needs to communicate to its users are confidentiality and privacy.
Confidentiality and privacy go hand in hand, but at the same time are slightly different. Confidentiality refers to data that is important to the company and keeping that data secure at all means. This data could be proprietary information as well customer data. Proprietary data is internally generated data or documents that contain technical or other types of information controlled by a firm to safeguard its competitive edge ("Business Dictionary", 2015). The loss or breach of any of this particular data, whether it is proprietary or customer data, could be detrimental to the company or the customer. This in hand directly relates to customer privacy.
