I am ambitious and hardworking with a strong passion to pursue a career in primary education. I am an active person who constantly goes to the gym as well as attain my education, I have also been an ice hockey fan for years, following the Cardiff Devils since the age of five; showing loyalty and commitment throughout my whole life.
My interest in primary education started when my cousin had her first child; I watched her grow up and make the transition from a toddler into primary education. I was intrigued by her behavioural changes and how well she coped with the transitions from pre-school to primary school, it is the prime factor for my education choices and my interest in teaching at a primary level. I personally think education is important from such an early age; a person is growing and constantly evolving, learning the ins and outs of life. The classroom teaches a child how to act around certain individuals, it shows a child respect and helps them develop their own personal skills. The role of a primary school teacher is to guide young children and to ensure their first education experience is a positive one, which will motivate them to work hard when they move into secondary school. It is also about teaching them good behavioural habits and manners. It is important for a child to have a good support system away from home where they feel they can feel safe and secure in the hands of a school.
The education sector is a dynamic and exciting sector that gives the understanding of issues in education across different contexts and environments. With the placement choices I have chosen, the educational background I have and a positive mental attitude, keeping up with this exciting and forever changing educational sector will be very easy for me.
In order to prepare me for a career in education, I made the choice of studying health and social care shortly after achieving AS level Sociology. AS sociology gave me an insight of many different behaviours we acquire as well as teaching me about the different backgrounds people go through and how it affects a person. The education module taught me the role and purpose of education, the differential education achievement of social groups by social class, gender and ethnicity as well as the relationships and processes within schools. This helps me to understand that in a classroom, one child may be going through many background changes or issues e.g. divorced parents, family illnesses, and the classroom should be made a happy environment in which children feel equal.
Health and Social Care has given me a lot of knowledge which I feel is useful in the Primary education sector such as communication and how to care for a child. Certain modules include ‘Developing Effective Communication’ which taught me how to act in certain situations and how to address situations in the right way, ‘Equality, Diversity and Rights’ which taught me how every single person is diverse and everybody, especially children should be treated with the equality and rights they deserve. ‘Caring for Children and young people’ taught me how to care for a child in the right way and to spot any problems a child may have and how to address them. These are crucial aspects of learning to become a teacher at primary level. This knowledge and my willingness to develop the attributes needed to thrive as a primary education teacher will carry me forward and make me an excellent candidate.
