ACCIDENT HAPPEN IN AGRICULTURE SECTOR FOR THE PAST TEN YEARS

INTRODUCTION

Agriculture sector is one of the most dangerous jobs in Malaysia as many accident occur involving the workers in this sector for the past 10 years. Although, our government have provide safety regulation or law in this sector but the incident still happens due to the carelessness of certain company toward their worker in the workplace. In this context, they failed to provide safety guidelines to the worker whether in handling chemical stuff or working at the farm, for examples in the oil plantation which can cause injuries even fatality to the worker. Moreover, agriculture was the second highest average incident of fatal occupational injuries in the past 10 years which is (30.5 per 100,000) followed up by the construction industry. The main types of injuries are fracture, concussion, internal injuries followed by falling object and the working environment which is not safe for the worker. Furthermore, some of incident are occur during handling the tractor which can cause injuries even worse death to the operator. This incident happens due to the farm tractor overturning which potentially crushing the operator. Besides, most of the incident happens at the farms where heavy things such as oil palm fruits fell off to the worker which can cause serious injuries to the worker and some minor error in handling machine also one of the reason incidents occur during the workplace. Thus, the government has provides a safety guidelines for the worker at the workplace such as OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994) which regulates safety guidelines for the worker at the workplace. This Act can reduce the risk of the accident as the workers follow the safety guidelines that need to be done at the workplace. Moreover,  DOSH (Department of Occupational Safety and Health Malaysia) has a main roles when it comes to the condition of the worker at the workplace as this department take part in serious accident at the workplace.

The tractor Overturning

Most of the cases involving the tractor overturning are happen due to the carelessness of the worker during handling the tractor which can cause injuries even death for them. Besides, the tractor often sloping on uneven ground. In addition, the operator loss control over the machine also one of the causes of the accident. For example, the paddy tractor overturning into the drain causing the driver drowning which happen at Parit Buntar causing the operator stuck below the tractor and die due to drowning.
