Contemporary Safety and Health Management Issues in the Workplace

Contemporary safety and health management issues are somewhat different in each workplace. Issues are always important because the safety of human capital is job one and is the right thing to do. Without that safety and health of the employees plus the environment the organization will not be able to provide an efficient and valuable product or service. This will have a direct effect on turnover rates and the bottom-line. Additional motivation to focus on safety and health issues includes fines by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Regardless of the worksite all managers can go to (OSHA) for guidance on identifying, training tools for personnel, and information packets on hazard/safety issues. Sickness and cleaning hazards are two items that would be of universal concern to all managers. Sickness that spreads in a work center can greatly reduce the productive and quality of the product or service produced. Joe Dunlop (2011) states if one uses chemicals on a regular basis in the work center one will need to ensure training occurs to ensure employees possess proper knowledge for handling the chemicals and handling any spills that may occur. Also employees should and have proper clothing and protection necessary to work with the chemicals. clever

Safety measures include requiring personnel to become certified for the use of equipment, issuing safety gear applicable to performing the jobs, conduct spot checks to ensure proper use of safety gear, and storing equipment safely when not in use.
