Gender and Management: Issues of Women at Workplace
Introduction:
It is true that our society has changed and women are no more confined within four walls of the house. The increased involvement of women in work outside the home has focused growing attention on the status of women. Over the past twenty five years women have made important progress in narrowing gender gap in pay and reducing occupational segregation by sex.
Women are although allowed to work outside the house but still there are several problems that women face today. They are still not treated equally in their workplace and women are still considered as inferior to their male co-workers. Women are still considered as the vulnerable section of the society and even though they are extra well-organized, they do not become the similar welfares as that of male worker. The main subjects and difficulties that females face in their work place comprises unequal pay, security, sexual harassment, lack of proper family care, lacking maternity leave, etc.
Sexual harassment is a major issue that women face at their work places and many women fall a victim of sexual harassment at work place. Women are considered as weak and vulnerable and the male employees and employers try to take sexual favors from women employee in return of other benefits and promotions.
Security is another major issue that women face in the work places. Women working in many sectors mostly fall a victim of various crimes at work place and this are due to lack of security provided to the staffs. There are numerous circumstances that has been listed where women working at workplace have become victims of sexual mistreatments and rapes while going back home and this is due to lack of proper security.
Unequal pay is another issue that women face at their work place. Even women prove to be more efficient than male employee greatest of the period, they are not salaried equally. This is an issue and gender discrimination that exists in offices. This is an unfairness to the ladies traditional who work dedicatedly for the progress and growth of the organization.
Lack of proper family support is another issue that working women hurts after. This is a subject that many females fight and for their presentation and also affect their promotion.
Insufficient motherhood leave of absence is additional major issue that is faced by working women. Women generally bear a disproportionate share of child and family responsibility. All working mothers must find ways to weave and balance their work and family commitments in accordance with their cultural and family preference, values and resources.
Most of the women are identified the benefits of work for themselves, most of the also discussed the benefits of work in relation to mothering and their children's well-being. The three primary benefits of work that the women experienced are: increased income that allowed them to do more for their children, increased self-esteem, feelings of social participation, and independence for themselves that positively affected their children; and increased ability to model values and behaviors that they thought would benefit their children in the long run.
