According to debate.org, 19% of users say that purchasing heath care should be mandatory. One user says that other countries such as Canada have a universal healthcare system.  He says that, “All Canadians are covered, and they can see any doctor they want anywhere in the country with no copays or deductibles. They do not deal with deductibles, copays or high premiums.” Another user, DisillusionedGilberto67, says that he believes it’s necessary that everyone has healthcare so that expensive resources can’t be wasted.  He also believes that it could save the country and government large amounts of money.

According to debate.org, 81% of users say that purchasing healthcare shouldn’t be mandatory.  One user, TwoVic , says that people shouldn’t be required to have  health insurance because it should be a personal choice. He says some people don’t want health insurance because they are naturally healthy and don’t get sick as much, don’t like hospitals, and prefer to treat diseases with over-the-counter medicines and natural remedies like rest. Another user, LeticiaR, believes the United States is a country where people are supposed to have freedom of choice. She says, “The government already takes control of more situations then they really should be. At the same time, they don't devote enough time and effort in areas which are highly in need of governmental supervision.”

I personally believe that healthcare should be required. The first reason why is because even though some people may not want health insurance they need it. Not all diseases can be treated with over-the-counter medicines or natural remedies. For example, serious diseases such as Cancer require Chemotherapy to be treated, and the only place that has Chemotherapy is the Hospital. Without health insurance, Chemotherapy would be expensive. Another reason why health insurance should be mandatory is because it could save the United States money. The National debt is at $16.9 trillion. We need to save as much as possible so we can’t get into anymore debt.
