Dear Ms. Harris,
I would like to thank you again for coming to my presentation regarding the implementation of smoking prevention and cessation programs at the New Brunswick Middle School and High School. The presentation was an incomplete look at my proposal, but this is a full version that I hope you will enjoy. I know that the Eric B. Chandler Health Center has a goal of being a resource for health information for the community. This proposal will help the Health Center in making the community healthier by educating the youth on the consequences of smoking, and helping them quit if it has already become a habit.
As many people know smoking has a very negative affect on the health of addicts. What some people may not realize is that smoking has become a very common event in the lives of teenagers in today’s society. Young people are becoming addicted to smoking without realizing the repercussions it could have on them much later in life. My plan is to implement a program to help teenagers who have already become addicted, while also educating all students on how smoking affects not just the person smoking, but the people in his/ her life as well as the healthcare industry as a whole. With the help of the Health Center, New Brunswick can become a model of success that other school districts can use at their schools in order to fight teen smoking.
If you have any questions or would like to set up an appointment after reading my proposal you may contact me via email at vrf12@scarletmail.rutgers.edu or via cell phone at 732-546-8623. I hope that with your help, the program can be implemented at the New Brunswick Middle School and High School. Hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Victoria Felton

Abstract
In this paper, it is proposed that students at the New Brunswick Middle School be provided with a smoking prevention program and that students at the New Brunswick High School be provided with a smoking prevention and cessation program. The prevention aspect will focus on the negative affects smoking has on a person in the short term and long term, the affects of smoking on people who do not smoke, alternatives to smoking, and ways to resist influences to begin smoking. The cessation aspect will help students learn a healthy way to quit, look at reasons behind smoking and find other ways to deal with problems besides smoking, and how to stay on track after quitting. These programs are based off of three models of success: the Minnesota Heart Health Program, the Not-On-Tobacco Program, and the Baltimore City Smoking Cessation Program. The anti-smoking program will educate students about smoking and help them before they delve into a lifelong addiction. This program will help the community as a whole in becoming a healthier city, and will hopefully cause other school districts to begin to provide a better program in their schools.
