Statistical Analyses
Statistical analysis is the science of exploring, presenting, and collecting data better to understand trends and patterns ("Statistical Analysis - What is it?” 2016). Statistical analysis can be very beneficial to for human service agencies. The article “Free Web-Based Statistical Analysis: A Viable Option for Human-Service Agencies” provided a statistical analyses of the effectiveness of analyzing data obtained from human service agencies. This article also provides descriptive statistic that were used in the study on the use of web-based statistical analyses. Last the use of inferential statistic the analyses supported the research hypothesis.
Summarization of Article
The content of journal article “Free Web-Based Statistical Analysis: A Viable Option for Human-Service Agencies,” provides a statistical analysis as a benefit to deciding on an appropriate web-based system to be used for a human service organization. This article focuses mainly on the inferential statistic, data analysis, internet uses, web-based statistical procedures, and descriptive statistics that can be used in human service organizations. This article offers an in-depth overview of the benefits of using web-based statistical procedures. Examples would be “the shortage of available procedures and the files. The outputs copy of desktop statistical programs and how outputs can be copied and pasted into agency documents (Quinn, 2011).” This article also provides some of the disadvantages when using a free web-based statistical analysis. One of the disadvantages is the facts that because the data cannot be saved agencies that use this method have to repeat the process of data entry each time the procedure is needed (Quinn, 2011).
Statistical Analyses in the Article
There are several different statistical analyses for human service organizations that are discussed in this article such as practice evaluation, funding requests, informed decision making, and program evaluation. One of the software programs that are designed for statistical analyses is Statistical Package for Social Science, that provides the ability to produce a table, collect, analyze and organize statistical data. Although this type of software can be very beneficial for human service agencies, it can also be expensive and may not be in the funding budget. Microsoft Excel is another option for human service agencies for statistical analyses. When using Microsoft Excel, the process can be complex for statistical analyses, it is important that staff members understand how the program works, spreadsheet functions, how statistics work, and how to do spreadsheet formulas. Another option for human service organizations is a web-based programs that provides free statistical analyses methods. Free online web-based programs are cost efficient because they are free there are some precautions to be aware of. One example is that the agency would need to take into account “analytical meeting the needs of the agency, and the usefulness of the output to the agency (Quinn, 2011)”.
