The Identity of A Person
Have you ever wondered what it was like for an average high school student to live amongst the wealthiest children, having their religion come in the way of making friends or even the way they look? Sometimes the problems that the children face with these factors can be detrimental and harming and most of the time their problems might get ignored or just dealt in a way where it might not be as helpful to them. Personal identity is an important aspect that has great impact on the individual person. The identity of one person can be affected tremendously to even a large group of people. People's identities are affected by the way they interact with each other by their socio-economic status, their religion, and by their physical appearance.
"Now it would probably be impossible. The country has changed. It's more difficult to build a mass movement for social and economic change, to find large numbers of Americans who care about the social solidarity"(America Now, What Does the New Class Struggle look like). Socio-economic status; something people live for in our societies. Everyone wants to look their best and have the best of the best but is it something that we do to "fit in" for the status? Children in high school are faced with many problems daily and one of the biggest is trying to fit in with everyone else. If you go to a school with wealthy kids that are the more popular ones then the less fortune child will want to meet that status as well. From personal experience, I was in a similar situation and going to a school where you are at average while the peers around you are more privileged, you feel a sense of being left out. Materialist was a prime example; girls everywhere were carrying Coach and Gucci purses got me interested in carrying purses as well, and in my opinion, I do not even like purses for myself.
