The Perfect Product Placement

        After reading both sides of this argument regarding the way Modern Family (Family "Watch Modern Family TV Show - ABC.com." ABC. Web. 10 Feb. 2016”).

uses product placement with the iPad, in my opinion was genius. The way the producers use Phil Dunphys’ character trait as an “early adopter” was perfectly executed. I think viewers who connect with Phil have no issue with the way it was all drawn up. Most of us have known or know people very similar to Phil and can relate. I myself being an IT guy can somewhat relate to his character and this episode. Did the show sell out, as critics would accuse the show of? Possibly. But with the growing number of viewers incorporating DVR into their television viewing, it makes it more and more difficult for broadcasters to gain revenue within advertising.

        In my experience, the commercial free viewing is not all what it is cracked up to be. The cost is just not worth the viewing. Some would say you become a slave to time slots when the DVR is not in your daily life. I disagree. We have always made time for the show we love. I have spent 5 years working for Charter Communications in the past and have had the opportunity to experience the surge of DVR devices. I felt at first I would watch less TV and the DVR would solve all my time issues I had. So much TV so little time. That was not the case. I found myself watching more TV then I was before I got the DVR.  The non-existence of commercials meant I had more time to watch more TV. Life seemed to pass me by as I watched all the programming I wanted at any time I wanted. After leaving Charter and dropping all the free services I found more balance in my viewing. I found that I actually love watching commercials and a lot of them were funny and entertaining.
