The topic that is least clear to me, is unit conversions.
- How might you use chemistry in your chosen career? Explain.
As a PA, I would be prescribing medications to patients, which chemistry was used to create. Many biological processes and dysfunctions are often lead by chemical reactions that I would need to understand to correctly diagnose a patient.
- Give an example of a homogeneous mixture and a heterogeneous mixture. What is the special name for a homogeneous mixture?
Homogenous mixture- tea
Heterogenous mixture- sand
Special name- solution
- What are the largest and smallest SI prefixes and their magnitudes? [MEMORIZE all units]
The largest SI prefix is exa, with a magnitude of 10^18. The smallest SI prefix is atto, with a magnitude of 10^-18.
- List the five SI base units commonly used in chemistry. [MEMORIZE]
Kilogram, second, kelvin, ampere, mole, candela, meter.
- Explain the difference between precision and accuracy.
Precision is how consistent results are when you repeat measurements. Accuracy is how close the measurement is to the actual value.
- What are the common units of density? What is the density of water at 25°C?
The common units of density are grams, kilograms, liters, and milliliters. The density of water at 25°C is 0.997 grams per milliliter.
