Who does not want to change at least one school rule? Why not abolish them all? Students come to this decision because they do not feel free to express themselves and pursue their dreams without restriction. This may be because of the dress code or lack of freedom of speech. However, the absence of school rules would create a tumultuous environment that can, in fact, be more detrimental to the student’s freedom.
Clothing choices are a crucial form of self-expression. Based on a survey, 97% of students would like to replace their school uniform for their own clothes because they are not comfortable and feel like they lack uniqueness. Strick rules do not allow you to be creative, such as no long braids, no skirts above your knee, no colourful watches and the list goes on and on. Students do not even have the right to speak at school. Who wants to go to school and feel like a prisoner?
Although wearing a school uniform does not permit you to express yourself, wearing your own clothes to school can become a great problem. Approximately 1 Million students in the United States get bullied because of what they wear to school. School uniforms can reduce bullying because everyone is wearing the same clothes. School uniforms are also safer than wearing your own clothes, for example, if the school goes on a field trip and a student is wearing their own clothes you may not be able to identify them if they get lost, but with a school uniform you can detect who is with the school based on their school uniform.
A school without rules can lead to a lot of problems. Without rules students may do whatever they like, such as, arriving to school late, disrespecting teachers, and not even attending school. Think about it, isn’t that chaotic? We need rules not just for school but also there are rules in workplaces, and there are laws of the country that should not be broken. There are activities that take place at school that allow you to express yourself and at the same time follow the rules.
In my opinion, I think that school rules are essential and should not be abolished. However, I may not completely agree with all of them because they do not make me feel comfortable at my own school, but I am aware of the consequences if something goes wrong. We as students cannot live without rules because it will not only be chaotic but also no school rules would not help us for our future life as everything is governed by rules.
