Taylor Ambulance Symantec Software User Interfaces
Software user interface also called "UI" or "interface," is how a System Administrator or person installing software controls a software application. “A good user interface provides a "user-friendly" experience, allowing the user to interact with the software or hardware in a natural and intuitive way” (TechTerms.Com, 2014). “The purpose of any software application is to enable some group of people to accomplish a specific set of tasks. So, the first things to establish when designing your application are:
1. Who your users are
2. What you want to enable them to do” (GNOME Organizaton, 2014).
Designing interfaces is critical, as the designer of the web pages must make them adaptable for the most adept individual to use, to the simplest design that will assist young viewers’ easy interaction. This paper details the user interface Symantec provides in their development of the Symantec Endpoint Protection software, which is currently under discussion, and up for proposal by the Taylor Ambulance Company, Inc. Information Systems Department (ISD). The ISD personnel installing the Symantec software will use a number of user interface windows to set up the antivirus software in an effort to:
• "Set the client's user control level to server control.
• Set the client's user control level to mixed control and set the parent feature on the Client/Server Control Settings tab to Server.
• For example, you can set the Show/Hide notification area icon option to Client. The notification area icon appears on the client, and the user can choose to show or hide the icon. If you set the Show/Hide notification area icon option to Server, you can choose whether to display the notification area icon on the client” (2014 Symantec Corporation, 2014).
Symantec Corporation software avails the ISD entity loading the software the ability to decide which settings the user and ISD System Administrators (SA) have access to and which settings the typical user cannot enable. The following options are set to the Server by the SA clicking on the Client User Interface Settings tab to configure them.
