Exploring the Problems of Internet Security

Introduction

     The purpose of this research paper is to explore the problems that we face with Internet security and what measures are being taken to confront and solve this growing epidemic. The Internet is changing our society, our economy and our technology system. The Internet is bringing people across the globe closer and is making it almost 100%  effortless to conduct business from different parts of the world. The Internet can be used to pay bills, shop for different products, used to obtain up to date news information or to merely chat with loved ones or to meet new people of different age groups, nationalities, or religious backgrounds.

     Chat rooms are a place on the Internet where different array of people of similar tastes, geographical areas or interests come to communicate by typing messages via their computer. The areas that will be covered in this research paper will be identity theft, hackers and what is being done to correct this problem and deter hackers. Companies are faced with the daily task of staying on top of technological advances and to make it harder for hackers to infiltrate their systems that house very pertinent information. The Internet has provided companies ways to conduct e-commerce, provide better customer service, reduce communication cost dramatically and to obtain the information needed for daily operations more rapidly. The entities that pose threats to the security of the Internet are hackers, employees and terrorist organizations. Companies are also experiencing problems from within, 78% (LateLineNews) said their employees abused Internet privileges, including downloading of pornography and pirated software.      

     Vulnerabilities associated with the Internet put government, business and individual users of the web at risk. People may ask the question, what is there to worry about when it comes to Internet security? To many people the response may be there is a whole lot to be worried about. There are security risks that not only affect web servers, but everyday users of web browsers, e.g., Mozilla FireFox, Internet Explorer and Netscape. Hackers and criminals have become aware that the Internet can provide opportunity for scams and the ability to obtain personal information through false businesses. The breach of this secure information can lead to identity theft, lost of money and very sensitive information can be seen by complete strangers. The results of this can have an adverse affect on ones life that can have a lasting affect.

     There are many ways of providing security over the Internet. Many companies and Internet users have passwords to protect their systems. Passwords deter unwanted and unauthorized users from accessing your system and doing lots of damage. The Internet has become a way of life for most people in the world because it has transformed the way we do business and how we live our lives. Most people would like to feel secure and at ease when purchasing on line. This requires you to relinquish your personal information such as social security number, address or credit card numbers. The Internet is one of the fastest growing businesses out there that allows people to conduct business in the comfort of their own homes and to stay connected with the rest of the world. Online fraud and hacking has been a major problem for years, but the question at hand is what are we going to do about it.
