SUBJECT: DATABASE DEVELOPMENT

DATE: May 9, 2016

Problem Definition

For purposes of tracking of artwork, artists and locations where artwork belonging to the museum or affiliated to it in any way, there is need to develop a database for storage, update and retrieval of the data. The database will be developed using Oracle Systems where the data will be stored in tables which will have relationships built with a specified primary key. Implementation of the database will facilitate for tracking and retrieval of information regarding the painting such as the location and museum name it would be currently located in as well as the member of staff who was responsible to facilitate for its safety and transportation.

Problems and Constraints

The problems and constraints which have led to the need to develop this system are notable from previous cases of lacking tracking information regarding paintings and other art work within the museum which has led to loss of property. The museum has lost several pieces of art work with some being misplaced during transportation and lack of accountability for them has been a factor in their total disappearance. Problems arising from implementation of the database are such as the financial and time constraints since it will be relatively costly and will require a time feasibility schedule between the development and implementation stages (Chen & Huang, 2012).

Objectives of the Database Environment

The database is aimed at improving security of paintings and art work as well as easing tracking of the same so as to prevent further losses. The database upon design and implementation is meant to have details regarding the painting such as the painting name and also a number affiliated for each so as to act as a primary key to create relationships between multiple tables in the database. Also, the names of the staff handling individual art works at any given times will be updated as well as the locations so as to facilitate for keeping track of the art works. The database environment is to facilitate for real time retrieval and updating
