Hardee’s as a CKE restaurant, introduced a burger to the market, and then have a good sale. The key to get this performance is that they use a new system call business intelligence systems (BIS). It make CKE confident that introducing the burger was the right decision. BIS are popular in the food industry to assist with making strategic decisions such as what new products to add to their menu, which dishes to remove, or which stores should be closed due to underperformance. Also, they use BIS for renegotiating contracts with food supplier and to identify opportunities to improve inefficient processes. BIS refers to a variety of software applications that analyze an organization's raw data and extract useful insights from it. As a discipline, BIS is made up of many related activities, including data mining, online analytical processing, querying and reporting. However, as my own opinion, in current marketing, an experienced leader who can make right decision is more important than rely on a data analysis system.

1. The BIS in CKE adds value to the business by giving information on key factors. They were able to look at factors such as menu variations, cost of production, unit sales in comparison to other burgers, and profit, sales in test stores. Also, it added value to the business because based on this information, Hardee’s felt confident to introduce the Thickburger in nationwide. It is a success that put the Thickburger into market first time and soon have a good sales.

2. I think it is important to notice that BIS is different from a standard reporting tool. It need much more information to bring into the analysis because only after a complete analysis it can shows what factors are influencing the data. So it’s important to analyze what information will assist in better decision making.
