Even before man created the wheel there was a need for transporting products to the tribes. As time went on there was and is a need for transportation policy. Tariffs and monopolization has to be minimized and the U.S. government has the biggest piece of the pie. From my perspective transportation policy and its directives is a sound economic structure. According to Coyle, Novack, Gibson, and Bardi of Transportation a supply chain directive seventh edition they argue that more than 60 federal agencies and 30 congressional committees are involved in setting transportation policies and even the Department of justice is involved . That alone employs numerous people, not counting the actual transportation people doing the job. There are countless reasons why the United States must have policies set in place, for example national defense. Our roads, railways, water avenues, and air space must be protected to do everything possible to keep society safe. Transportation policies provide a guide ensuring worth of likely properties of economic growth and a strong national defense.

We learn from history and sometimes mistakes and can only be set up with “what if” scenarios. The national and local government transportation policy appears to get better with each disaster evacuating plans and disaster relief. After 9/11 the department of Homeland Security was created to prevent future terrorist attacks on the home front. Efficient evacuation of towns and cities are better planned after hurricane Katrina ravished New Orleans area. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and local agencies of where a disaster area occurs has developed more plans for mass evacuation and transportation safety for citizens.
