K. Huffman founded Huffman Trucking in 1936 with a single tractor. Its growth was the direct result of World War II when the demand for carrier services was increased in Midwest all the way to East Coast. Their primary customers are U.S. Government, automotive parts supplier, electronic consumer products, and any customer requiring special accommodation, such as wine, computers, munitions, etc. The company has facilities located in Cleveland, Los Angeles, St. Louis, and New Jersey. It consists of 925 drivers and 425 support personnel. Although the company's primary mission is the satisfaction of customers, the industry is also assuring that their employees are compensated fairly.
The Vice President of the Industrial Relations, Graham Grove, requested a development and installation of a benefits election system from the Director of Human Resources, Kenneth Colbert, to support the tracking reporting of employees union and non-union benefits. Graham's memo reached a decision about the alternate health care benefit programs for their non-presented employees. Its expected result is to create a project plan in Microsoft Project that will be used to manage, track and report the progress of this software development to the management team.
The effective way to create the required project, Project Manager will have to define the problem first by recognizing the Huffman Trucking HR Department, identify the team to work on the project, discuss budget and schedule, and get approval from the Senior HR Management. Before designing the project, the problem has to be analyzed properly. The HR Project Manager can discuss the current and desired benefits with the Huffman employees, review and document all contracts from union and non-union, prepare a specification for these different employee benefit packages and create a voting system to bid on those packages, and share these results with Senior HR Management.
