Situation
A software developing company has received a new proposal from the client for developing software based on client’s requirements. There are a few issues that are commonly faced which can be both intra team and inter team. Following are four such issues:
- Issue: Inability to Adjust to Changing Demands
Issue Description: Developing a product in IT industry can be demanding in terms of project deadline, employee skills and initial product requirements but the issue which can really hamper the product is the inability of the project development team to adjust the constantly changing demands of the customer related to the product.
Initial requirement of the product is a preliminary blue print of the project and customer change the demands over time as they see fit. Adjusting to these demands can be challenging because of technological and functional constraints. Initial architecture of the project also plays an important part and if it is not apt it could lead to a product which is fragile and doesn’t hold good to the changing demands in future.
Importance: If the team finds itself in a position where it becomes hard for the team to change the product to the new demands, they might have to change whole structure of the product and start over again. This puts a lot of burden on the development team which can lead to missing the deadlines and ultimately to product failure.
Initial prototyping of the product is also important so the customer can understand the shortcomings and different facets of the product. If the developing team can gather the overall demand of the product at this phase the product becomes more feasible and easy to adjust to future demands. It is also important that the customer understands the constraints of the product so proper and periodic communication can also play an important part.
