1) Executive Summary

  E-commerce involves digital enabled commercial transactions which occur over the Internet and the Web between the organizations and individuals. Commercial transactions involve the exchange of value across organization and individuals. There is no commerce occurs if there is no exchange of value. E commerce is where the customer can visit an online business through an electronic storefront. Electronic storefront contains product description, images and shopping cart. Shopping cart can allow customer to collect their purchases. Customers can enter personal data and the method of payments through a secure Internet connection.  E-commerce technology is different and more powerful than any of the other technology.

The E-commerce website of our group chose is www.dell.com.my which sells electronic devices such as laptops, desktop type computer, printers and so on. Dell Computer Corporation was established in 1984 and it ranks the world’s largest computer system companies in today society. Dell implements two concepts which are directly sales to customer and build-to-order production. The company designs and customizes products and services to end-user requirements. Dell offers an extensive selection of peripherals and software.

Dell used Business-to-Business (B2B) and Business-to-Consumer (B2C) for E-commerce transactions. Dell tries to attract customers by providing the products that will customize the need of customers. Dell cooperates with various suppliers for components and software because Dell did not manufacture the components for the product by itself.

E-commerce Website provides an ease for the customer to shop for the product or services. Customers can shop at anytime or anywhere they like by shop to the E-commerce Website to get the information. This will help to save the time and cost for the customers.

2) Type of e-commerce

Direct online is Dell’s major electronic commerce (EC) activity. Dell sells the products to some of the groups of people which are individuals for either their homes or home offices, small business which have up to 200 employees, medium and large business which have more than 200 employees, and the government, education, and health care organizations. E-commerce is a type of business model that enable a firms or individual to conduct a business over an electronic network. E-commerce can be classified as Business-to-Business (B2B), Business-to-Consumer (B2C), Consumer-to-Consumer (C2C), Peer-to-Peer (P2P), and Mobile Commerce (M-Commerce). Therefore, Dell website used Business-to-Business (B2B) and Business-to-Consumer (B2C). 

E-commerce transaction used by Dell is Business-to-Business (B2B). Business-to-business is a model in which all of the participants are businesses or in an organization. It was a Business-to-business (B2B) transaction since one company bought its supplies from other company online Most of the Dell’s sales are to businesses whereas business-to-consumer is facilitated by standard shopping aids. For example, catalogs, shopping carts, credit card payments and so on. Business-to-business customers will get additional help from Dell. Dell also provides each of the nearly 100,000 business customers with Premier Dell Service. Business-to-business transactions delivered by Dell will allow organization to lower the procurement costs.
