Site Survey Benefits

Dear Ma’am:

This memo is in reference to the benefits of a site survey. Please be advised of the essential necessity of time and resources to conduct such a survey before the installation of a wireless network. It is my belief that time is of great importance to the project because of careful planning of the installation as not to over look or obtain the maximum from the resources. Time plays an important role because of the information that is needed to fully understand a wireless network.

First, I would like to discuss the definition of a site survey. A site survey is the study of a facility to understand the radio frequency coverage areas and check for interference to determine the proper placement of wireless devices. Failure to conduct a proper site survey would result in traveling of our wireless signal beyond the walls of the building resulting in signal vulnerability. A site survey will ensure that we position the wireless access points where they would have clear signals.

I would need tools for the survey that include a laptop with a built in wireless interface card, which would be used to check certain areas in the building for signal strength. I would also need a digital camera for recording and documentation purposes. I will be willing to supply these tools from my personal inventory in order to conduct the survey. A site survey utility software package would be needed to gather signal strengths in real time in different areas of the building. To ensure smooth operation of the network, a network analyzer would allow the staff to monitor activity on the network.

I certainly hope that this operation would be seriously considered as the proper set of tools and adequate time will result in a very useful wireless network.
