The goal of data management is to provide the infrastructure and raw data into available to corporate information for high-quality tools. There are many difficulties associated with the management of data; for example, manage, search and retrieve data located across the enterprise can be a major challenge. All the data in a database management program that can be accessed, and alleviate many of the problems related to environmental data files. However, since they are constantly adding, editing or updating the database is unstable. There are a lot of list of data management difficulties.
The amount of data increases exponentially. There are many old data need to keep for a very long time, and new data must be added rapidly. Since the amount of data and business growing need for more information and analysis, there has also been under development, most organizations support an increase in the number of applications. This gives a significant requirement for IT professionals because they have not always been a corresponding increase in staff. Companies are increasingly focusing on cost control. To solve the challenge of managing the amount of data and with the money and resources for the smallest possible expenditure of real-time information needs. For example, banking, insurance, healthcare, communicates, the Internet, and e-commerce.
Data are scattered all across the organization and are collected by many individuals using several methods and devices. The best way to take advantage of a knowledge capital through a data warehouse. A data warehouse is a central location data, combined with all existing subsystems into a single structure and legacy systems. Applying this concept to the management of information technology, as most organizations have scattered pockets or soils of information scattered in the organization which is very important. When everything is located in one place, managers can capture all the information required for decision-making. Thus, the main reason for building a data warehouse is to improve decision-making. The benefits of the data warehouse include better customer service, reduce production costs, improve profitability, and faster turnaround time for decision-making.
Only small portions of the data are relevant for specific decisions. The amount of data in an external organization to make a decision to consider increasing. External data can provide you with a bigger picture, accessing external data is no costly. Also, technology and tools have made accessing external data easier and more convenient than ever, can give the real-time, minute-by-minute updates on the industry, consumer, and product trends, can give a leg up on competition, more data is being uploaded to the web every day.
Data is often stored in an organization across multiple servers and locations. The (raw) original data can be stored in different computing systems, database format, and human and computer languages. Collect data from multiple external sources may be more complex tasks. One way to improve it, according to Roland (1994), using a data flow manager (DFM), which obtained the information from an external source and put it where needed, when needed, in a useable form. A DFM include (1) decision support system, (2) request the central data processor, (3) data integrity component (4) is linked to external data suppliers, and (5) External data provider process.
