In this article, the issue of whether iPhones should be implemented into the business organization is discussed. Jim Barton is faced with many challenges on demands from other departments on their take of the importance of having iPhones. The iPhone is not an approved device by IVK, therefore Jim struggles with how to handle the issue, after reading different documents submitted by each department.
Some key issues are security, compliance, and costs. The main problem is security. With implementing new technology the main goal is always for the device to be secure, so that there are no potential threats and loss to the company. Everyone is affected by this decision. Each department’s goal is for their line of business to be more efficient. The executive wants to lower cost, the sales department wants to expand and raise profits, and security wants to ensure that there are not threats.
A SWOT analysis would be beneficial so that the company may determine if the iPhone is something that they should invest in. The SWOT will allow them t evaluate the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of implementing the iPhone. When measuring the outcomes, the business should consider what they are willing to deal with in order to have the phone. That should be evaluated in reference the their business model.
Mr. Barton should look at the overall business objective of the company and consider whether the iPhone would help or discourage the objective to be accomplished. Barton could By reading the case, implementing the iPhone seems like a good idea, the key players would definitely benefit from having the phone.
