Project VECAS
TOPIC: MAGNETISM
PROCEDURE:
Objects used:
Toy R/C cars x 2
Electromagnets x 8
Sensors x 8 b
Battery 16V
Aim of the Project
This project shows the application of magnetism in road safety of cars, it’s a potential project to save the lives of the passengers of cars with the inducted technology.
This project gives a base and creates the hypothesis for futuristic safety technology in cars, which if implemented by the government for all cars could prevent collision/accident of cars due to brake failures, lack of presence of mind, etc. The principle on how this works is very direct: On collision of cars, a magnetic shield of the same polarity appears and prevents the car from direct hit. In turn it results in the car and the passenger receiving minimum damage.
Creating the Magnetic Shield
A Magnetic Shield was created for both the toy cars ( 1:250 replica of a real car) by the use of electromagnets and sensors. Magnetic strips of the same polarity where put all around the cars, and proximity sensors where attached to them, to activate the magnetic shield. The radius and the power of the magnetic shield shall differ from car to car, according to the various sizes. The magnetic shield is powered by the cars battery but since that wasn’t possible for the R/C car, an external battery has been added for the experiment.
Testing of the Magnetic Shield
The magnetic shield was tested by colliding both the R/C cars. Both the cars were meant to collide in an average velocity of 15m/s. The outcome resulted in the magnetic shield coming up in time and
