1. Walmart is not doing enough to become more sustainable. As the the largest retail company in the world Walmart could do a lot for the environment. Walmart could simply tell their suppliers and distributors that they will not do business with them if they don't become more sustainable. I am sure that most of the products that Walmart sells are not environmentally friendly.
2. Walmart has been scrutinized for paying their employees less than a reasonable wage. They have also been know to keep their employees on part-time schedules so that they don't have to pay benefits to them. These decisions are likely the result of pressure from their investors to drive down expenses.
3. Walmart performance in the market has improved while other retailers suffered because it has the buying power to drive down the cost of their suppliers products so they can offer them at the lowest price possible to their customers. Companies of within the industry cannot compete with Walmart's prices.
