Practice task
Note: Review your classmates work and not the book you have read/are reading for this practice task
Choose one group member’s work of fiction/non-fiction that they have been writing for Assessment 1. Write a review of around 800 words on three areas A, B, and C given below. You must address at least one aspect in each of three below. For example, in A, you may want to include the main theme and the social context only. Or you may think social context and characters are more interesting to talk about.
A. The content
i. Discuss the main theme of the story/work
ii. Elaborate the social/historical context
iii. Describe one of the characters you believe is worth discussing
B. Writing style/techniques
i. Discuss the writing style of the author
ii. Describe the writing techniques used in the book
iii. Explain the literary devices used and their effectiveness/appropriateness
C. Personal response/thoughts
i. Discuss why the book is interesting/worth reading/not interesting to you
ii. What has appealed to / disappointed you within the book
iii. Why readers should read it/not read it (you can be very honest here so that readers get feel of what has disappointed you)
Instructions
1. Write the title and author of the book before writing your book review paragraphs.
2. Please write on a book approved by your teacher. You cannot suddenly change to a different book in completing this assessment.
3. Each section should be a coherent piece of work. If you write more than one paragraph for each section, they should be well-connected. No subtitles are required.
