Jim Crow Policing
In the article “Jim Crow Policing” Bob Herbert talks about the unnecessary frisking and racism
connected to searching potential criminals. Herbert makes several points as to why police are harassing the black and latino population and how it is wrong. Many latinos and black New Yorkers are frisked and harassed because they look like criminals. This is a form of racism because statistically the police have stopped 84% of all black or hispanic New Yorkers and this is much less than the stops for white New Yorkers(Herbert Pg 1).
Herbert also speaks about the percentages of how many people stopped actually are criminals
or possess some sort of contraband. Less than 1.6% of stops of black New Yorkers and 1.5% of hispanics had some sort of contraband but when they stopped white New Yorkers they had found contraband 2.2% of the time(Herbert Pg 1). This shows how police are racist against the minority when they are looking for criminals. They sometimes harass and punish completely innocent people.

They have often done this to completely innocent people and they don't deserve to be treated this way. Racism has always been a problem. I believe many people are racist in our country and even more so from law enforcement and other types of security like airport security or bank security. I believe that it is very wrong to judge a person for criminal acts just because of the color of their skin. These “Jim Crow policing strategies” are complete nonsense.
The racism in law enforcement has been there since the start, but the police have said that there
