Many great leaders throughout history possess similar attributes and qualities. In Coach Carter, and Hoosiers, there are desperate times which bring both coaches to enforce accountability, perseverance, and commitment to strong relationships among their teams to guide them to success.
In Coach Carter, and Hoosiers, it is shown that people have certain responsibilities before enacting in enjoyable activities. Within both movies, the players must be accountable in order to be on the team. Such things as academics are crucial for these players and without passing through education their games would be non existent. Once fulfilling the educational aspects each player must be ready to commit to their team in order for success to be achieved. In each movie, the players feel as if their practice time is meant for play. In Hoosiers, coach Dale explains to his team that; “My practices aren’t designed for your enjoyment”(Hoosiers). This indicates that the coach is serious about practices and hopes that his dedication will drive his players in doing the same. This is something the teams need to improve on in order to be accountable for playing the game. Coach Carter explains to the people at the board hearing that his team and previous, have been lead to troubled times, and truly need their academics in order to ensure that they will succeed, not only as a basketball player but as a respected student.
“You really need to consider the message your sending these boys by ending the lockout. It’s the same message that we as a culture send to our professional athletes; and that is that they are above the law. If these boys cannot honor the simple rules of a basketball contract how long do you think it will be before they are out there breaking the law? I played ball here at Richmond high 30 years ago.
