As an utilitarian they would believe that the Khorasan group is doing what is right to make their society happy. In the article they talk about how ISIS and Khorasan is plotting against Americans. In the eyes of an utilitarian they will feel the action of killing Americans is what satisfies them which makes their society's happiness to increase and would make the Americans happiness decrease; which then result as everybody in their community equal. Americans feel if Khorasan and ISIS continues killing our people it would not result in anything beneficial. In the article it always talks about how the Khorasan group posed a threat to the U.S which equal to of ISIS. By the group opposing a threat on the U.S causes the government to worry because they are not fully prepare on what is going to happened. In the eyes of a utilitarian they would justify that the government should use all their power which would causes their happiness greater because and the everybody on the government side will be equal. According to the article, “Khorasan group’s focus is not on overthrowing the Assad regime: In this case it is showing the happiness of the group to continue to kill innocent victims to prove a point to Americans.The Khorasan group in this case does care about the consequences because the end result is that a million innocent victims are being killed and then be able to have the government trying to attack them.
An a utilitarian perspective the actions of the Khorasan group and ISIS is justify as being justice because their justice is causing happiness for their society. Even though justice requires that people should be treated fairly, the Khorasan group and ISIS does not see it as that. For referring to rights “utilitarianism says that action are defensible if they produce a favorable balance of happiness over unhappiness” (The Elements of Moral Philosophy). In this case the actions of Khorasan group and ISIS is balance happiness over unhappiness
