15 Habits

1. I always set long term goals for myself to complete because it constantly keeps me motivated. One goal I have always promised to keep was that I will finish school because it is something I want to do for myself so that I don’t look back and regret not doing it. Also I want to be able to show jobs in the future that I went to school and I am experienced in the field of media production. Another goal I have is I want to land a job in the media production field. I know that it is a very competitive market to get into, but if I keep pushing towards my goal there is not a doubt in my mind that I will achieve these goals.  

2. When I was in community college setting priorities would have helped me set boundaries on important tasks that needed to be completed. When I was in community college I would always want to go out with my friends and I never really want to leave. Setting priorities would have helped me limit how long I would stay out or maybe not even go out at all and just get work done. Now that I live on campus I have to learn to balance school and my new friends so that I do not fall behind.

3. Whenever I have a big exam or paper coming up, I always divide the work for myself so I am not doing it all last minute.  This has always helped me even back when I was in elementary school. For example if I have a huge paper due a month away, every week I’ll work on a paragraph or two so that by the time it’s due I will only have to put finishing touches on the paper. Same goes for studying, I usually break up my studying in multiple days so I retain the information over a longer period of time.

4. I am always an organized person because if you are constantly unorganized and missing assignments you will never be succeed with what you want to do in life.  I always try to stay as organized as possible by putting things in the right places and by keeping up with assignments that are due in class. Also if you can’t stay organized in college what job is going to keep you around if you are constantly losing and forgetting material? Being organized is a key factor to maintaining a positive work environment.

5. I struggle with working effectively because usually I need to reread certain things multiple times to fully grasp the concepts being discussed. Sometimes I do not have time to reread things multiple times because I have other work to take care of or I have to go to my job. This really shows when I have to take a test as well because sometimes I won’t get a good grade because I wasn’t able to review the material. This is something that I continuously try to work on so that my grades won’t lack when it comes time to take a test.

6. Consistency is one of my strengths because even when I don’t have assignments due or tests to study for, I’m always looking over the material. I love to make flash cards which I can study almost anywhere. Usually if I’m on the bus or in the passenger seat on a long drive I can pull out my flash cards and study.

7. Persistence is a habit that I lack in because sometimes when hard challenges are presented to me, I tend to give up or move onto the next thing. One time I was working on my Sociology paper that was 25 pages long and was extremely difficult to write. I went through 10 drafts of this paper before I just gave up and handed in what I had. I did end up passing the class but not with a grade I was proud of. I know if the future If I keep at it and never give up I will have more success than just doing the bare minimum.
