Presidents
Throughout history, the country’s Presidents have had similar beliefs on what is best for America. The Presidents’ beliefs are similar when it comes to God, peace and prosperity.
President Truman, Kennedy, Reagan, and Clinton all have in commom ending their speeches with the mentioning of God. According to President Truman, God’s help will create a world of justice. These presidents refer to God to bring hope to the citizens of America; for example, “with God’s help we can and will resolve the problems which now confront us” (Regan). The mentioning of God seems to be a common factor in these presidents’ speeches.
Furthermore, peace is a concern that these presidents share in their speeches. They all wish to have freedom and peace throughout the nation. According to President Washington, “to be prepared for war is one of the most effectual means of preserving peace.” The presidents mention peace throughout their speeches because the desire for peace has not changed over the years.
Another belief that the presidents share is prosperity. They mention how much America has prospered over the years. President Truman says “imponderable resources in technical knowledge are constantly growing….” Truman’s statement is an example of America prospering in technical knowledge. Clinton gives examples on his hopes for prospering: schools will have higher standards than any other in the world, citizens will have better jobs, and greater chance of going to college. The presidents want America to prosper into a better place.
