James Madison

James Madison ,the 4th President of the United States, or the "Father of the Constitution" was born March 16,1751, Port Conway,Virginia. Madison passed away June 28,136, Montpelier,Orange County, Virginia.

The highest form of education James Madison had was being able to graduate in 1771, from the College of New Jersey(now Princeton University). His occupations includede him being a lawyer, political theorist, US congressman, and secretary of state under Jefferson.

Madison served 2 terms form 1809-1817. His first term being from 1809-1812 and his second from 1813-1817.

Issues during Madison's first election was Popular Vote,Electoral Vote James Madison (Dominican-Republican) 128 and Dewitt Clinton (Federalist) 89 .

During Madison first election his opponents were Charles C. Pinckney who was a Federalist and George Clinton a Democratic-Republican. His second election opponent was Dewitt Clinton who was a Federalist.

James Madison political party was Democratic-Republican.

George Clinton served as his Vice President during his first term from 1809-1812. Elbridge Gerry served as Madison's Vice President during his second term but died before Madison finished his last term.

Domestic Affairs that occurred during his second term included the rechartering of the Bank of the United States(1816)

Foreign Affairs that happened during Madison's first term involved in The War of 1812.

  Foreign Affairs that happened during his second term included the burning of the White House(1814), The Battle of New Orleans(1815), and the Treaty of Ghent was signed in 1816(1816).

Major Inventions during Madison's Presidency included the Stirling Engine(1816, Robert Stirling), Stethoscope (1816, Rene Theophile Hyacinthe Laennec), and The Bicycle (1816).

Major social movements during his first term was the nation became sectionalized. The North was against war and the West and the South was for the war.Major social movements during his second term was that the Indians watched with increasing apprehension as more and more whites settled in Kentucky.Kentucky was a sacred area where settlement and extensive hunting was not allowed except in times of scarcity.

This bill was a revision of the original bill by Representative Nathaniel Macon, known as Macon's Bill Number 1.
