Sometimes in life we think we have it all planned out. The future is seen though the eyes of an innocent individual. At this stage of my life, I should have already attained a college degree. Through different life experiences, I have become the individual I’m today. In this research paper, I will briefly describe some of my experiences in life that made me the person I’m today. I will also use some of the developmental theories learned in this class to analyze my life.
I was born in Guyana, South America. Guyana is a third world country that was once a colony of Great Britain. I lived with my mother and four other siblings. My father was not part of my life until I was five years old. As a child, living in a third world country life was like life anywhere else in the world. You were never concerned about the future, not knowing that you and your family were living in poverty. It was all about playing with your friends and having fun.
At the age of ten, my father got married to an American citizen and moved to America. Six months later, he submitted my paper and I moved to America with him. As a child I would here people tell stories about America and created my own image of what it would be like. I picture the streets were paved with gold and everything was magnificent looking. I created perfect a world in my head and was not prepared for the surprise that awaited me once I arrived.

The native language of Guyana was English, but it was spoken with a very heavy accent and the other kids found this very funny. Also my family did not have the money to buy me the expensive name brand sneakers or cloths so I was often made fun of for what I wore. During those times I think the only things that helped me get by was reading many books. I created that imaginable individual that lived the perfect life.
As I stated earlier my father became a part of my life when I was five years old. The part he played at that time was providing financial support. From age five to ten I had no affectionate relationship with my father, I did not know the man. So it was like living with two total strangers. My father served in the Guyanese army and believed in strict discipline. The affectionate love between father son never developed and it was always a struggle. My stepmother, on the other hand, had no kids of her own and ensured that I knew I was not her son.
When I was fifteen, my father and stepmother had a child of their own. I believe this was the first time in my life I was jealous of someone. I was jealous because my sister was receiving the love I never had. As the text stated in the credo data base “Children are extremely sensitive
