Distinctive Competencies
Distinctive competencies enable a business to differentiate itself against its competitors. A superior competency allows the production of a unique value proposition in the function of the business. Apple, Starbuck’s, and McDonald’s all have distinctive competencies that make them superior over their competitors.
Starbuck’s has many competitors in the coffee retail market. The core competencies of Starbuck’s include its unique coffee roasting techniques and the fact that all their drinks are hand-made. The quality of the coffee beans used is high, and are sourced ethically. Starbuck’s also has minor competencies which include a “secret menu”, a diverse workforce, and has a large social media following.
Apple computers has some of the most trending product lines in the consumer electronic market. Their products are very well-designed and user friendly. Compared to their competitors, Apple’s products are physically more appealing. Overall the distinction of Apple is their products are only functional but also beautiful.
Serving over 64 million customers’ a day, McDonalds is a global leader in the fast food market. McDonalds core competency is the fact that it can provide its products with maximum convenience at the lowest prices. McDonald’s products also have consistent high quality levels for fast food standards. Overall, customers enjoy McDonalds convenience, speed delivery, consistent quality, and low prices of their products.
